Return to Play Guidelines

SYBSA 2020 Return to Play Guide

 

June 15th- Practices begin

Practices will be held for two weeks.

Post signage prominently stating no one should attend or participate in practices if they currently have symptoms or have been in contact with anyone with a confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis in the last 14 days.

No dugouts may be used.  Line players items against an outfield fence at least 6 feet apart. 

Parents stay in cars for drop off/pick up before and after practices.

Encourage players to use their own equipment as much as possible including gloves, helmets and bats.

Coaches shall be responsible for ensuring social distancing is maintained between players as much as possible during drills and practice activities.

Players must bring their own water/beverage during practice.  No water fountains will be available.  No shared drinking or portable coolers allowed. 

Shared equipment will be sanitized before and after each practice.

Anyone with symptoms of illness is not allowed to practice.

Spitting, sunflower seeds and gum chewing is prohibited. 

 

 

June 29th- July 24th Games Begin

Players may utilize dugouts and additional extended dugouts behind the fence in order to maintain social distancing.  Coaches will be responsible for monitoring social distancing within both team dugout and extended dugout.

Encourage players to use their own equipment as much as possible including gloves, helmets and bats.  Equipment that must be shared should be sanitized before and after use (catchers gear).

Coaches/board members must sanitize shared equipment before and after each game.

Anyone with symptoms of illness is not allowed to participate.

Spitting, sunflower seeds and gum chewing is prohibited.

 

 

Umpires

Plate umpire should set up behind pitcher’s mound to allow for social distancing.

Have minimal to no contact with game balls, foul balls will be kept in the dugout for sanitizing.

Will be provided a bottle of hand sanitizer to use throughout the game.

 

Balls

Each team will be responsible for supplying (from their equipment bag or given to team by directors before each game) a number of clean/sanitized balls for each game

Balls will be sanitized and rotated every half inning so teams are only using the balls they touch. 

 

 

 

 

 

Equipment

Encourage all players to have their own helmet and bat.  Gloves are already required for each player with the exception of catcher’s mitts.

Equipment that must be shared should be sanitized by the coach before and after each use.

 

Participation

Participation is VOLUNTARY for players, umpires, volunteers and coaches.  If someone is at higher risk, has pre-existing conditions or doesn’t feel comfortable playing, please sit this year out with no judgment or penalty for opting out. 

Have all participants (board, coaches, umpires, parents) sign an additional COVID liability waiver before the season begins.

 

Player Sanitizing

Each player must sanitize hands before entering or leaving the field.

 

Fans

Allow fans in family groups to set up along outfield fences and in grassy areas, maintaining a 6 ft social distance between groups. 

 

Mound Visits

Limit visit to one coach, pitcher and catcher who are all socially distanced.

 

Concessions

No concessions available.

 

Post Game Interaction

Eliminate handshakes/high fives/fist bumps.  Instead, each team will line up on first and third base lines (socially distanced) and tip their caps to opposing team. 

Players and coaches must exit the field immediately after post game hat tip and leave the ballpark.  No after team meetings or limited to ability to socially distance.  Meeting must be kept to under 10 minutes.
